| | | | | | | | Discussion:
Fire Station #1 HVAC units are scheduled for replacement in 2018. There is $100,000 budgeted in the capital improvement plan for this expenditure.
Quotes were received from two companies for two brands of unit.
Owens Companies
Aeon Brand - $83,800
Lennox Brand - $68,300
Associated Mechanical
Aeon Brand - $88,579
Lennox Brand - $64,580
Staff is recommending the Aeon Brand, and Owens Companies at a cost of $83,800.
Facilities maintenance staff have found over the course of time that the Aeon brand are more maintenance friendly:
- Shakopee has several other Aeon rooftop units and they have proven to have less down time. In the maintenance team's experience Aeon has been so good that we moved a 9 year old unit from the old City Hall to the Public Works Building in 2018. Any other brand we probably would not have moved.
- Aeon uses a high quality compressor—we’ve never had to replace one. (Compressor replacement is usually about a 6k cost.)
- Aeon has proved to have a longer life expectancy compared to other brands.
- More maintenance friendly with good access--better quality outer metal coverings with hinged doors.
