Approve the purchase of a trailer mounted sanitary sewer vacuum for a total net price of $142,418.

Authorize the purchase.

The replacement of the sewer vacuum (Unit No. SK1142) used for cleaning sewers is included in the 2019 Capital Improvement Plan (see attached information sheet for CIP No. Sewer-19-002). The trailer mounted sewer vacuum is being purchased under the State of Minnesota Contract No. 120851. A quotation form from Flexible Pipe Tool Company is attached and is consistent with the state contract purchase bid. The city's old trailer mounted sewer vacuum will be traded to the equipment supplier as part of this purchase.

The city's current sewer vacuum was originally purchased in 2002 and is on a 15-year replacement schedule. The replacement of the vacuum was delayed to evaluate the potential of upgrading to a truck mounted vacuum. The Public Works Equipment Committee determined that a vehicle mounted vacuum would be too limiting due to its larger size. The trailer mounted vacuum is more maneuverable, more economical, and more practical for the city's current operational needs and uses.

The net purchase amount less trade-in for the trailer mounted sewer vacuum is 142,418. The budget amount allocated in the 2019 Sanitary Sewer Fund is $165,000, which is under budget.
