At the City Council meeting on April 16, 2019, Council received a presentation on the community survey results. As a part of that presentation, one of the recommendations was for Council and staff to collaboratively engage in strategic planning. This agenda item is to obtain Council's direction related to that recommendation.

Strategic planning is a best practice of all high performing organizations. For Shakopee, it will help staff prioritize resources toward the highest priorities of the Council, align operations and communicate with the public.

Strategic planning is the middle ground between the long term plans we have (comprehensive plan and parks master plan) and the shorter term operational plans we have (budget, capital improvement plan, City Council work plan). The strategic plan will effectively tie everything we do together and help us to align everything we do so that we are more efficient, and deliver better services to the public.

A presentation will be made to council to discuss in more detail at the Council meeting.
