Discussion:
The city established the position of Building Inspector - Electrical to bring the position in-house and to provide a higher level of customer service including plan review. The Electrical Inspection fees were adjusted to provide adequate funding for the position.
The position will be filled by a Master Electrician, who currently has his own electrical construction firm that he will be closing. The requested pay level is to commensurate with his license and experience. Electrical inspectors are very difficult positions to fill. Currently, we have two contract employees filling the position at $60/hour. The midpoint for this position in the 2019 Non-Union Pay Plan is $35.38 (Step 4) and we are recommending that he be hired at $37.19 (Step 5) to allow the individual two additional future steps.
The Building Inspector - Electrical would be starting September 23rd.
