Shakopee City Council
December 17, 2019

FROM:Dave Rutt, Street Supervisor
TO:Mayor and Council Members
Subject:
Emergency repair for Lift Station No. 16.
Policy/Action Requested:
Authorize an emergency repair to Lift Station No. 16 that includes a pump replacement by Minnesota Pump Works in the amount of $47,042.00.
Recommendation:
Approve the purchase.
Discussion:

The city's primary sanitary sewer lift station (L-16) exists with three pumps that are 20+ years old. One of the pumps has failed and is worn out to a point where it must be immediately replaced as the lift station is currently operating with two of the three pumps.

An evaluation and feasibility study are currently underway for the upcoming L-16 Rehabilitation Project (SEWER-19-001, see attached CIP summary sheet). But as indicated, the failed pump must be replaced immediately. The feasibility study has been advanced far enough to determine an appropriate pump replacement that will be compatible with the upcoming and ultimate L-16 rehabilitation project.

With that said, quotations were solicited and received as follows:

Pump Replacement (3,700 gmp)

Minnesota Pump     $47,042.00 (ABS 115 HP pump)

Electric Pump          $95,660.00 (Flygt 110 HP pump

Accordingly, the low bid for the pump is from Minnesota Pump Works in the amount of $47,042.00. It should also be noted that other estimated installation costs include electrical work ($5,000) and programming ($2,500).

Budget Impact:

Funding will be from the Sanitary Sewer Fund and included as part of the overall 2019 CIP project costs.
