Discussion:
Staff has been able to establish a public/private partnership with a vendor (Edgetek Hockey) who desires to open a proshop in the ice arena which will enhance the quality of customer service, lower city operating expenses (staffing), and diversify revenues. Edgetek will offer professional skate sharpening and repair, a broader range of high quality hockey and figure skating products, and an array of apparel products and services (printing, embroidery, etc..).
The vendor will operate in the space currently housing rental skates and the skate sharpener. The vendor proposes purchasing the city's skate sharpener and all proshop inventory on hand for $7,000. The entire space will require minor modifications (see plans). The city's cost is limited to the wall construction and modification/installation of a smaller customer service window at the current staff entrance door. The vendor is responsible for renovations to the leased space with their current vision/plans to include: slat walling, a skate drop box, and replacement of the solid shutter door with a see-through option. Coordination with contractors to begin renovations will begin immediately upon City Council approval.
The vendor agrees to a 5 year lease agreement, planning to open for business on April 1st, 2020 (see Letter of Intent).
