Shakopee City Council
May 16, 2017

FROM:Bruce Loney, Public Works Director
TO:Mayor and Council Members
Subject:
Approve application to the 2017 CenterPoint Energy Community Partnership Grant.
Policy/Action Requested:
Approve Resolution 7885 which is an application to CenterPoint Energy's 2017 Community Partnership Grant. The City of Shakopee is requesting $2,500.00, the maximum grant funding amount allowed, to purchase two TrafficLogix SafePace® 100 Compact Speed signs.
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution 7885.
Discussion:

For 14 years CenterPoint Energy has offered the Community Partnership Grant which offers a matching grant up to $2,500.00 to purchase eligible safety and emergency response equipment.

The City of Shakopee would like to acquire two TrafficLogix SafePace® 100 Compact Speed signs which are portable traffic control devices. These are rechargeable digital display speed signs with analytic capabilities and are easily mounted to any pole or sign with a lockable bracket; this feature allows the signs to be moved to a variety of locations within the City. The portable radar speed signs would allow the City of Shakopee to assist with traffic calming in multiple areas, primarily near heavily used pedestrian and school areas. These signs have proven to reduce vehicle speeds and increase street safety and livability.

Budget Impact:
The total cost for the two TrafficLogix SafePace 100 Compact Speed signs is $6,023.00. If the requested $2,500.00 CenterPoint Energy Community Partnership Grant is awarded to the City of Shakopee, the City would need to match the remainder of the funds or $3,523.00. The matching amount is funded by the Engineering Operational Supply budget.
