Discussion:

Shakopee-Rec-At-Home and Virtual Programs:

Since having to close customer facing operations on March 17th, the Parks and Recreation Department has pursued creative strategies to serve the Shakopee Community, leveraging collaborative relationships with colleagues at the local, state, and federal level, in order to serve our community with programs and services even under COVID-19 constraints.

Ice Arena and Outdoor Fields Reopen:

The Ice Arena and Outdoor Fields (Youth Only) re-opened June 1st.  Special thanks to the tireless efforts of staff and volunteers who labored to develop plans and protocols applying implementation measures and guidance from Minnesota Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control, and recreational sport.  Each user group is required to submit a "Return to Play" plan prior to use.

Summer 2020 Programs, Services, and Events:

All Spring/Summer offerings from the brochure published in March are cancelled with refunds for all registrations or reservations. The updated/modified Summer brochure will be published on June 15th (digital only) with registration opening June 16th.

Community Center Re-opens July 6th:

Shakopee Community Center will re-open to regular hours on July 6th.  The timeline is dictated by three factors: 1) Equipment needed to meet the sanitizing standards (all has been ordered - and some back ordered); 2) Staffing shortages - many part-time employees will not be returning; 3) Reservation system - GroupEx PRO will provide online predictable reservations for all services (implementation began on 6/12/20).  The initial re-opening is limited to Community Center Members with the intention of expanding the scope as soon as feasible.

Budget Impact:

Ice Arena revenues for June 2020 more than doubled from June 2019.

Youth Association fee reduced from $17 to $10 for curtailed season.

Community Center Annual Members have 4 months added to expiration.  Community Center Monthly Members will see charges resume August 1st.

Refunds for all registrations and reservations from March brochure.

Payment for registration/reservation as published in June 15th brochure.
