FROM: Micah Heckman, Project Engineer
TO:Park & Recreation Advisory Board
Subject:
Red Oak School Trail Project Improvements
Policy/Action Requested:
Recommend the Red Oak School Trail alignment and plan to the City Council for project advancement.
Recommendation:
Approval as requested.
Discussion:

The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) includes the Red Oak School Trail improvement project (see CIP project summary sheet PR-20-005). The trail is proposed to be constructed through the Southbridge neighborhood on property currently owned by the city. The trail would serve as an important regional connection to the Southbridge Community Park and close an existing trail gap that was identified in the Shakopee Parks, Trails and Recreation Master Plan.

An agreement is needed from CenterPoint Energy as there is a pre-existing gas main easement along the corridor before the property was transferred to the city.

A community open house is scheduled for July 28 and the project is scheduled to be formally considered by the City Council at the August 8 regular meeting. Project bidding and construction are expected late summer/fall 2020.

Budget Impact:
The trail project is included in the 2020 CIP with a total budget of $167,000 . The project is funded from the Park Development Fund ($145,000) and the Tree Replacement Fund ($22,000). There will be no direct assessments to the adjacent property owners for this project.
