| | | | | | | | Subject: Purchase a pickup truck and grass rig insert for the Fire Department; and declare equipment as surplus. | | |
| | | | | | | | Policy/Action Requested: Approve the purchase of a 2021 Ford F-350 4-wheel drive from Midway Ford, the equipment and setup from Foreman Fire Service and Repair, in the total amount of $105,163.84; and the declaration of the grass rig insert equipment as surplus. | | |
| | | | | | | | Recommendation: Approval as requested. | | |
| | | | | | | | Discussion:
The replacement of the Fire Department's 2006 grass rig vehicle No. sk1013 is included in the 2021 Capital Improvement Plan (see attached CIP sheet Equip-21-323). The pickup truck is being purchased in the amount of $45,638.84 from Midway Ford. It is being purchased under and is consistent with the State of Minnesota Contract No.169665. Two quotes were obtained for the grass rig, equipment and installation, and Foreman Fire Service and Repair was the low bidder in the amount of $59,525.00 (see attached quote).
The 2006 Ford F-350 (10,555 miles) has been evaluated and will be retained as a holdover vehicle to be used as a support vehicle for the Fire Department. It will replace the Fire Department's 2010 Ford Explorer (vehicle No. sk1112), which is their current holdover vehicle that is a backup vehicle and used for general purpose. The 2010 Ford Explorer has 94,286 miles, has already been declared surplus and is no longer needed. The old grass rig insert is also no longer needed and should be formally declared surplus. Once the new grass rig is in service, the 2010 Explorer and the old grass rig insert will be sold at auction.

| | | | | | | | Budget Impact: The budget for the Fire Department's grass rig per the CIP is $110,000. The total purchase amount is $105,163.84 which is $4,836.16 (4.4 percent) under budget. The vehicle is funded under the Equipment Internal Service Fund. Revenues from the sales of surplus equipment will be deposited into the Equipment Internal Service Fund. | | |
