Subject:
PUBLIC HEARING - Conditional Use Permit for an Overheight Utility Structure Substation
Policy/Action Requested:
Continue the Public Hearing to February 4, 2021.
Recommendation:
Continue the Public Hearing.
Discussion:

Ledios Engineering, LLC & Shakopee Public Utilities have submitted a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) application to allow for the construction of an over-height electrical distribution substation at 2022 Colburn Drive (located east of Colburn Drive and west of County Highway 69/Old Brick Yard Road.

That property presently is zoned Highway Business (B-1) Zone.

Due to a recent City Code Ordinance Amendment, Substations are no longer listed as a Conditional Use in the Highway Business (B-1) Zone. They are listed as a Conditional Use in the Light (I-1) and Heavy (I-2) Industry Zones only. Based on this Code regulation, the applicant is required to submit an application for a Rezoning from B-1 to I-1 before the City can fully process their Conditional Use Permit application.

They are presently doing that and this and the rezoning are expected to be on the Feb. 4th BOAA/PC Agenda.
