FROM:Michael Kerski, Planning/Development Director
TO:Mayor and Council Members
Subject:
Application to MnDOT Clean Transportation Grant
Policy/Action Requested:
Adopt Resolution R2021-008.
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution R2021-008.
Discussion:

The MnDOT launched a new pilot program aimed at promoting clean transportation and decreasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The overall program's goal is to demonstrate the potential of innovative clean transportation technologies to reduce GHG emissions from the transportation sector in Minnesota and help the state meet the statutory GHG reduction goals in the Next Generation Energy Act.

In November 2020 a Letter of Intent, outlining the city's clean transportation initiative, was submitted. The letter was accepted which allowed the city to move forward in the application process. The city will be applying for a city owned electric vehicle (EV) and two charging stations; one to be placed at City Hall, and the other at the Community Center.

Budget Impact:
The city is applying for $50,000 to cover the cost of purchasing the EV and two charging stations. The EV will be used primarily by the Electronic Building Inspector who puts the most mileage on a city vehicle per year.; hence, the required 20% match will be covered under the Building Inspector budget.
