Subject:
Arbor Day Proclamation - April 30, 2021.
Policy/Action Requested:
Proclaim April 30, 2021 as Arbor Day.
Recommendation:
Proclaim April 30, 2021 as Arbor Day.
Discussion:

Arbor Day is celebrated worldwide. Communities that celebrate Arbor Day and provide ongoing care for the City's urban forest are eligible to become a Tree City USA. City staff have submitted the Tree City USA application for the city since 2008. The City of Shakopee has now been a Tree City USA for 13 years.

The Arbor Day Proclamation is a requirement as part of the Tree City USA application. The proclamation brings awareness to the community about the history and importance of Arbor Day. It also encourages our citizens to celebrate Arbor Day in conjunction with the city. The city celebrates Arbor Day by holding the Arbor Day tree sale and through planting of trees. Residents will be able to pick up the trees they ordered through the city tree sale on April 24, 2021.

Budget Impact:
