Community Center/Ice Arena Update

The Grand Re-Opening is Sunday, September 10th from 1-3 pm. Please mark your calendars. Staff has been busy managing the items left to complete on the punchlist. The final touches to the Community Center are also coming together. Pictures have been hung, signage designed and installed and an amazing mural is on display. Staff will continue to finish the final touches even after the grand re-opening. Beginning on September 11th the Community Center will have all amenities and services open and operational.

We continue to look for qualified part-time staff. It is a struggle metro wide but please pass it on that we have part-time job openings.

Park Development Update

Fun For All Inclusive Playground

The donor appreciation event was August 3rd. Despite the rain we had a great turnout and everyone enjoyed the way the donor board turned out. The park is an amazing asset to the city.

Tahpah Park West

The Tahpah Park west baseball field is substantially complete. Staff is working with the contractor on the final punchlist items. Some of the items include; concrete and fencing corrections. The Shakopee Youth Baseball Association presented a large check to the City Council on September 5th for their first payment to the ball field of $25,000. Thank you to the Shakopee Youth Baseball Association for their support.

Pickleball Courts

Staff has been working with local pickleball players to get more outdoor pickleball courts in the city. At this time there are four courts and they utilize the existing tennis nets. Staff is obtaining quotes to stripe four pickleball courts per tennis court at Lions Park tennis courts for a total of 8 pickleball courts. The city will then provide a lock box and nets for the groups to utilize. This is similar to how Prior Lake and Eden Prairie provide pickleball to their communities prior to installing dedicated pickleball courts.
