FROM:Micah Heckman, Project Engineer
TO:Mayor and Council Members
Subject:
Parking zone restriction change along Atwood Street from 4th Avenue to 5th Avenue.
Policy/Action Requested:
Approve the parking zone restriction for "NO PARKING" signs on Atwood Street on both sides of the roadway from 4th Avenue to 5th Avenue.
Recommendation:
Approval of the parking zone restriction.
Discussion:

With the Scott County Government Center expansion project nearing completion, Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) has evaluated their existing transit stop location at the Government Center. In an effort to better serve their riders, MVTA will be relocating their transit stop to Atwood Street between 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue. This better aligns with the new entrance to the Government Center located off Atwood Street.

To accommodate the proposed transit stop, existing parking stalls on Atwood Street must be eliminated. With multiple driveway entrances along this stretch of Atwood Street, very little room remains for on-street parking. Therefore, it is proposed to restrict parking on both sides of the street for the full block (see attached exhibit).

Budget Impact:
Parking zone signs will be manufactured and installed by city staff and existing pavement markings will be removed by city staff, funded out of the Street Maintenance operating budget (approximately $700).
