Discussion:
The city was informed by a resident that tractor trailers enter Clay Street from 1st Avenue, believing that they can access Rahr's warehouse at 715 1st Avenue. Clay Street does not have an outlet and there is not adequate room for truck turning maneuvers to turn around. This condition is not apparent to drivers turning form 1st Avenue and consequently results in some trucks being forced to back up and out into 1st Avenue (County Highway 69) creating a safety issue.
The administrative Traffic Safety Committee evaluated the condition and determined that additional signage could be installed to help alert drivers of this condition. A regulatory sign indicating "No Trucks" is recommended to be installed on Clay Street just north of 1st Avenue to help alert and deter trucks from entering this section of roadway. The "No Trucks" sign is a regulatory sign and requires approval by City Council.
Additionally, a "No Outlet" warning sign will be installed above the existing Stop sign at the intersection of Clay Street and 1st Avenue. Note that a warning sign does not require Council approval.
