Discussion:
Staff has presented a concept plan for the demolition of these two structures. Terracon completed an environmental report on the properties that recommended removal of certain materials prior to demolition.
The contractor will remove the contaminated materials and dispose of them at a regulated landfill and then demolish the two buildings including capping sewer and water services. The water service to 711 will remain at the curb so that it can eventually serve the livery building.
The contractor will remove the foundations and any basements and backfill and compact with materials and top the site with soil and grass to provide erosion control until such time that a larger plan is implemented.
Both structures have been identified as non-contributing structures by our consultants, the 106 Groups, the State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service.
Demolition of the properties will secure the area and open up space around the remaining historic properties for surveillance and eventual reuse.
The city advertised and solicited bids.
We have included a $5,400 contract contingency for any possible well closures.
