FROM:William H. Reynolds, City Administrator
TO:Mayor and City Council Members
Subject:
Appointment of a new Assistant City Administrator
Policy/Action Requested:
Appointment of Chelsea Petersen as Assistant City Administrator.
Recommendation:
Approval.
Discussion:

I am happy to recommend Chelsea Petersen to be the next Assistant City Administrator.

Chelsea was selected from an initial pool of 73 candidates. As part of the rigorous weeks-long selection process which whittled down the viable candidates, initial prospects were first ask to submit written answers to 14 in-depth and probing questions. Twelve candidates were then requested to submit a video responding to more questions. Then as one of four remaining candidates, Chelsea was selected to partake in two 10-person interview panels which consisted of city staff leadership and Councilor Brennan and Councilor Contreras. She then interviewed with the city administrator. Chelsea was the consensus choice after the process concluded.

Chelsea brings a wealth of experience to Shakopee. She is very familiar with the city as a resident of Savage and former Assistant City Manager for Chanhassen, and spends quality time in the city enjoying our multiple entertainment venues.

In addition to her work in Chanhassen, Chelsea has worked as an Administrative Coordinator and Community Development Director for Falcon Heights, and in her most recent service as the Administrative Service Director for Oakdale.

Chelsea has a BA in Communications from Concordia and a Master of Public Administration from Minnesota State University Mankato. Her wealth of experience and personality with be a great fit for our city.

Budget Impact:
Chelsea will be replacing the former assistant administrator. As such, there is no budgetary impact.
