Shakopee City Council
July 6, 2021

FROM:William H. Reynolds, City Administrator
TO:Mayor and Council Members
Subject:
Cancellation of State of Local Emergency
Policy/Action Requested:
Approve Resolution R2021-108 a resolution to cancel the current state of a local emergency due to COVID-19
Recommendation:
Approval.
Discussion:

On March 16, 2020 Mayor Mars declared a local emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 17, 2020 the City Council adopted Resolution R2020-044 to extend the period of the mayoral declaration of a local emergency

In the early morning hours of 30 June, the Minnesota State Legislature came to agreement to end Governor Walz's emergency powers on July 1st. In addition, the state's requirement for municipal preparedness plans expired on 30 June.

As such, the original facts upon which the declaration of a local emergency was enacted have changed and staff believes based upon the current rates of vaccinations, infections and deaths that it is an appropriate time to end the current status of a declared local emergency.

Budget Impact:
None.
