Discussion:
The gateways signs were one of the "Big Ideas" in the 2040 Comprehensive Plan, Envision Shakopee. Staff has worked with Engineering on locations and sent the concept drawings to our sign contractor and landscape architects.
The two locations are at the EDA-owned site at Vierling and CH 69 and on city-owned parcel adjacent to Valley Fair on CH 101.
The signs themselves are $91,556.48. We have a proposal from Confluence for $5,000 for site design that would include weed fabric and very low water and maintenance plants. We are allocating $20,000 for site preparation and electrical installation. Shakopee Public Utilities has agreed to provide electrical service for the Vierling sign from an adjacent street light service. Xcel is working on a drop from an adjacent pole service at Valley Fair location.
