Park Development Update

Memorial Bridge

Members of the PRAB requested an update on the status of the Memorial Park bridge project. At this time the project is still in the planning stages. The past City Engineer was working with the city's consultant, WSB, on a final design. We currently have a new City Engineer and he will continue the discussion with the consultant to determine the final alignment of the bridge when he is able. The cost, location and cultural resources impacted are factors in the final location and design. Without knowing the final location and design a final cost has not been determined.

At this time the City has $450,000 allocated to the bridge project in which $300,000 is grant dollars. The SMSC has donated $10,000 to the project so far and the County may contribute $50,000. A total of $510,000 is therefore currently available for the project.

Project Closeouts

The final punch list items and close out documents are being completed for the Quarry Lake Park Phase I and Tahpah West ball field projects.

Development Updates

The City Council approved a preliminary and final plat for West Shakopee Gateway First Addition. The plat includes five lots on 31.46 acres, which the city purchased from the Minnesota Department of Transportation in 2016. Within the plat, Lot 1, Block 3, is a proposed 2 acre park. The remaining 2.46 acres of Lot 1, Block 3 will be used for stormwater ponding. Staff will add this undeveloped park to the Park Reserve Fund Plan for future development. The timing of development will be discussed when the Park Reserve Fund is reviewed for 2019 or sooner if needed.
