Recommend that the Planning Commission give a positive recommendation of the proposed Bicycle Parking Ordinance.

One of the items recommended from  review of the Bicycle Friendly Communities is the establishment of a bicycle parking ordinance.

Planning staff intend to re-write the automobile parking regulations in 2018. The intent would be to include bicycle parking regulations with changes to the vehicle parking regulations.

When considering a bicycle parking ordinance planning staff reviewed ordinances of other cities and a model ordinance from an advocacy group to create regulations that work for Shakopee. Cities used are all in northern climates, Anchorage, AK, Minneapolis, MN and Pittsburgh, PA. The goal is to create an ordinance that is easy to understand and read for staff, developers, residents, and property owners by providing examples, tables, and graphics.
