Council is asked to approve Resolution No. R2021-152 to assess property owners on taxes payable 2022 for unpaid refuse and recycling services from Republic Services, the city’s designated garbage hauler. 

In a previous action, the City Council authorized city participation in the collection of delinquent garbage accounts in the city's designated "organized" collection area. By doing this, it eliminated the need to stop service to the accounts, which could lead to a higher incidence of illegal dumping.

Republic Services provided the City with a list of delinquent accounts on September 1, 2021 of which there were 320 property owners with unpaid garbage/refuse bills for a total an amount due of $42.127.98.

Attached is a list of delinquent property owners who have unpaid garbage/refuse bills as of October 13, 2021, which there were 240 property owners with unpaid garbage/refuse bills for a total amount of $33,891.03.  An updated list of property owners to be assessed will be on provided on Tuesday evening; this is to allow property owners to make final payments until Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

The list, which will accommodate Resolution No. R2021-152, includes an administrative charge of $25.00 to cover the City's cost.  Charges will be added to the delinquent bills once the assessments are adopted by Council.
