Over the past several years, the city has received numerous complaints about these dumpsters overflowing and remaining outside for months on end. The City of Apple Valley enacted almost an identical ordinance in 2020.  Other cities throughout the country are adopting ordinance to regulate these small dumpsters.

The flexible dumpsters can be purchased at local big box stores and unfolded and can be used for debris from a renovation or remodeling project or items from a garage or attic cleanout.  The flexible dumpsters are three cubic yards and can hold just over 3,000 pounds.  

These flexible dumpsters are great for short term projects but are not designed to sit out for months on end since they have no structure or drainage like conventional dumpsters.

The current pickup charge for a flexible dumpster is just over $150.00.  Removal of these dumpsters requires a special piece of crane-like equipment that only a few waste haulers have. 

Residents who exceed the fourteen-day limit will receive a warning that their time is up.  After the warning period, they could be subject to an administrative fine that will need to be established and adopted by Council.
