Discussion:
The skate park at the Shakopee Community Center includes both wooden and concrete ramps. The wooden ramps were moved from the previous skate park location when the new one was constructed, with the intention of replacing them when they reached the end of their useful life. The wooden ramps are now deteriorating and becoming difficult to maintain.
The City of Shakopee Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Project PA-22-03 includes improvements to the Shakopee Skate Park in three phases (2022, 2023, and 2024). To address the maintenance concerns, minimize construction closures, and create financial efficiencies, the proposal combines all three phases into one phase in 2022.
Community engagement on this project included an in-person event at the skate park, a community engagement website that had 265 unique visitors, and signs at the skate park directing skate park visitors to provide their input. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board provided feedback on the concept plan, resulting in the final design.
Sourcewell Contract 112420-SRI was used to identify a qualified contractor to solicit a quote. A quote was received from Spohn Ranch, Inc., in the amount of $354,775.
The existing wooden skate park ramps are no longer needed and would be declared surplus property and sold at auction.
