Discussion:
The city acquired this property from NorCor in December 2021 for park purposes. The bluff area will eventually connect the entire length of the west end area. The remaining almost nine acres along Hwy 169 was farmed until last year. The city is working with XCEL Energy (they have a large easement over the area for transmission lines) and the Scott Soil and Water Conservation District (Scott SWCD) on creating a pollinator prairie for this area. Since the area was farmed previously it makes a good area for rapid seeding.
Scott SWCD would like to seed the area this spring before weeds take over much of the area. Scott SWCD will use its seed machine with the approved seed mix.
The city will be required to mow the area and reseed next year the areas that don't take. The area should be largely established in about three years. It will be a mixture of grasses and wind flowers. At 8.9 acres, it will be one of the larger and more visible areas that has been done in the region.
