Discussion:
The city currently has a couple of projects in the works related to the redevelopment of the area around Levee Drive, Scott Street and Atwood Street north of 1st Avenue. These projects include the River Bluffs Development known as the Shakopee Flats Apartments and the River Bluffs Public Improvement project which includes reconstruction of the adjacent roadways. Additionally, the design of the Levee Drive Park Trailhead immediately adjacent to the improvement area is underway.
The River Bluffs project area is located within the Central Business District. The developer's agreement for the private development requires the developer to construct street lighting and enhanced landscaping within its portion of the improvements. Additional street lighting is recommended on the opposite side of the roadways and along the sidewalks, the regional DNR trail, and the Levee Drive Park Trailhead, which is the responsibility of the city.
Street lighting and installation for both the public and developer portion of the private street lights will be procured by the city, with reimbursement from the developer for the street lights for the developer's portion of the private development.
The street light poles and fixtures will be purchased from JT Services of North Mankato, MN in the amount of $118,496. The lighting pole and fixture is consistent with the city council approved lighting standards for the Central Business District.
The street light bases and conduit will be installed by the current roadway contractor, Northwest Asphalt, Inc., in the amount of $94,930.
Shakopee Public Utilities will install the street lights, wiring, and associated equipment under the cooperative agreement. The cost of installing the street lighting and associated work is estimated to cost $52,000.
