Application to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS), Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) DWI/Traffic Safety (TS) Officer Grant 

Adopt Resolution R2022-097, approving an application to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety DWI/Traffic Safety Officer Grant. 

The DPS OTS DWI/TS Officer Program awards grants for law enforcement agencies to hire an officer to work the peak nights and times when data indicates impaired driving is most likely to occur. While primarily seeking to detect and interdict impaired drivers, the DWI/TS Officer will also focus on the dangerous driving behaviors of speeding, distracted driving and occupant protection. This grant will allow the Shakopee Police Department the funding to hire a DWI/TS Officer for one year in which data will be collected to see the effectiveness of the program. The grant will cover the officer's salary, benefits and overtime relating to duties performed within the scope of this position.

No match is required; however, as a commitment to the program, grant administration costs, vehicle mileage costs, and/or agency expenses incurred will be used as a match.
