FROM:Michael Kerski, Planning/Development Director
TO:Mayor and Council Members
Subject:
Huber Park playground replacement
Policy/Action Requested:
Provide staff with direction so that a final plan, including demolition and installation can be created for final pricing.  Council will see final design and pricing at vote for award of contract.
Recommendation:
Provide feedback to staff
Discussion:

The existing playground is reaching the end of its useful life.  Several sections have had to have temporary repairs made to allow for continued short term use.

Staff has completed an extensive public outreach that included comments through Social Pinpoint. Staff also held a number of public engagement activities to gather preferences for what possible users were looking for in a new playground.

Staff reached out to a number of playground designers and chose the current designs since they met the desires expressed by the users. St. Croix Recreation has provided three proposed playground.  Two have equipment from Berliner and one from Burke.

All include large areas of poured in place material to allow maximum fall protection and accessibility.

The project is currently in the Capital Improvement Program at $700,000 with replacement to occur in 2023.

Final designs and pricing should be completed in early 2023 so that the pieces can be manufactured and installed in late 2023.

Staff presented the project to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on October 10, 2022.
