Purchase of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Equipment.
Policy/Action Requested:
Authorization to purchase SCBA equipment from MacQueen Equipment. 
Recommendation:
Authorize purchase of SCBA equipment from MacQueen Equipment. 
Discussion:

At the City Council meeting on December 6, 2022, approval was sought and granted to purchase six air packs, cylinders, and masks as part of the 2022 CIP purchases for the Fire Department. That equipment has since been ordered. Due to supply delays and shipping efficiencies (both in time and cost), staff is requesting to order the scheduled 2023 equipment replacements at this time as well. 

 

The 2023 budgeted amount is $59,700 and includes the following: 

  • Four sets of air packs, cylinders, and masks
  • 47 masks  
  • Six SCBA battery packs 
  • One charging bank for the SCBA battery packs

 

The City of Shakopee belongs to the H-GAC purchasing cooperative, and MacQueen Equipment is an authorized dealer under this group. The equipment listed above has been quoted in compliance with the purchasing agreement. 

 

Additionally, Rahr Malting Co. will be donating $10,000 worth of equipment to the department. A presentation for the acceptance of that donation will come before Council in 2023. 

Budget Impact:
Funding for this equipment was originally budgeted at $59,700, and the quote per the purchasing agreement is $64, 397 due to increasing equipment costs.
