MN PCA MN Diesel Replacement Program grant offers funding to purchase and install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations within the state of Minnesota. In 2021, the City of Shakopee has applied for and received this grant to purchase and install three EV charging stations at the Community Center and in the public parking lot at 2nd Ave W and Lewis St.
The Quarry Lake charger would be Level 3, often called a fast charge or super charger. XCEL Energy serves the park and would provide the transformer, switch gear and power to the charger (approximately $80,000). The city would be responsible for purchasing and installing the fast charger equipment (approximately $40,000) For the City Hall charging station, the city has previously contracted with Shakopee Public Utilities to prepare and install the EV chargers for about $15,000 each.
