Discussion:
AARP provides annual Community Challenge grants to encourage agencies and organizations to create more age-inclusive communities. Project concentrations include creating vibrant public spaces, delivering transportation and mobility options, housing support options, improving community diversity, equity, and inclusion, increasing digital connections, supporting community resilience, increasing civic engagement, and improving community health and economic empowerment.
In the past, the City of Shakopee has applied for this grant to fund the painting of a downtown mural and to improve the Levee Dr. Trail Head, and was granted funding for the move and improvement of the community garden on 10th Ave W and Main St. This year, funding is being sought to reactivate and further expand the gardening classes provided in the Senior Program. Additionally, funding would be utilized to purchase needed equipment and supplies pertaining to the gardening program.
