March 6, 2018

FROM:Steve Lillehaug, Public Works Director/City Engineer
TO:Mayor & Council Members
Subject:
Trunk Highway 169 MnPASS and Trunk Highway 13 Freeway Conversion Corridors of Commerce Program Funding.
Policy/Action Requested:
Adopt Resolution R2018-23, supporting projects to be considered for funding through the State of Minnesota Corridors of Commerce Program.
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution R2018-23.
Discussion:

Scott County has recently submitted several projects for grant funding consideration as part of the 2018 Corridors of Commerce Program. These projects are regionally significant transportation projects in the southwest metro area, which includes Shakopee, as described in the resolution and attached exhibits.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is expected to award $400 million to selected projects as part of this program across the State. Qualify projects must provide additional highway capacity on segments of trunk highways where there are currently bottlenecks in the system and must improve the movement of freight and reduce barriers to commerce.

As part of the scoring criteria for the program, cities that would be touched by the suggested project(s) need to have a resolution of support for the project(s) in order for that project(s) to receive 45 points (out of a total of 700 overall points)  in the "Community Consensus" category.

The tentative program schedule is as follows:

  • Resolutions of support due by April 16, 2018
  • Project evaluation and scoring March 2018
  • Project award announcement and release of final scores April 2018
Budget Impact:
No budget impact.
