| | | | | | | | Policy/Action Requested: Adopt Resolution R2023-048, approving an application to Bureau of Justice Assistance's Connect & Protect: Law Enforcement Behavioral Health Response Program grant. | | |
| | | | | | | | Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution R2023-048.
| | | | | | | | Discussion: The Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance offers funding via the Connect & Protect: Law Enforcement Behavioral Health Response program. The funding is available to law enforcement agencies to promote cross-system collaboration, providing services focused on improving public health and safety while responding to incidents involving individuals with mental health disorders and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The department currently has a collaboration with Scott County, embedding a social worker with a patrol officer. This funding would be used to pay the department’s portion of the social worker’s wages for future years, explore the sustainability of the program, and determine whether expansion of the program is needed. Funding of up to $550,000 is available over a three-year period. | | |
| | | | | | | | Budget Impact:
An escalating match is required: 20% match during year 1 and 2, and a 40% match during year 3. This match will be made via in-kind funds such as officer time already devoted to the program and staff time for planning and evaluation.
