Discussion:

Lisa Brodsky, Public Health Director for Scott County Public Health was approached by the National Fitness Campaign about potential locations for a partnership in Scott County.  Scott County Public Health has already funded the Edible Landscaping program in Scenic Heights Park.  There is also a high density of people in that area and the location on the Vierling Greenway, it also provides access to the larger community.  Parks & Recreation would be able to do programming at this site and it is also adjacent to Shakopee School District Middle School.

The Fitness Court offers a variety of stations for training along with an area for public art and a flat area for activities like yoga and general physical training.

These courts have been installed in almost all 50 states and they already have four locations in Minnesota including Worthington, Wilmar, Waite Park and Moose Lake Township.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota has agreed to partner on ten courts in Minnesota.

Ms. Brodsky is working on grants to fund this project.  The total project cost is approximately $259,500.  She has already secured this $50,000 grant and is contributing $25,000 in Public Health Funds and is working on commitments for the remaining funding to construct the project in 2024.

This is a great partnership with Scott County Public Health that brings a proven workout and physical training facility to the community while also an outreach area for the Parks and Recreation Department for additional programming.  The use is a perfect match to improvements that have already been made to Scenic Heights including the new playground and the planned pickleball courts and trail improvements in 2024.
