The Shakopee Police Department continues to participate in the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force (SWMDTF). Starting in 2024, Shakopee will no longer be the fiscal agent for the SWMDTF. Scott County will be the new fiscal agent, which necessitates a change in language in the current Joint Powers Agreement. The Drug Task Force receives grant funding so it must be noted who the fiscal agent is.

The attached Joint Powers Agreement in consistent with the previous agreement council has approved. The only reason it is coming before council again is because Scott County will be the new fiscal agent. The proposed Joint Powers Agreement runs through 2028.
