The Engineering Department partnered with Shakopee High School's CAPS Human Services Program to study pedestrian access, connectivity and safety along 10th Avenue between Harrison Street and Marschall Road (CR 17). CAPS stands for Center for Advanced Professional Studies and allows students to gain deeper understanding of careers in Public Service Leadership, Law & Legal Services, Mental Health and Social Services. By partnering with the City of Shakopee, students will use critical thinking and collaborative skills to examine and solve real world problems.

The study included:

  • Reviewing the existing roadways conditions and issues
  • Engaging with the community, area residents and schools to discuss issues and ideas for improvements
  • Develop recommendations that could be implemented with future roadway improvements

Shakopee High School students Nicole Maenke, Lily Schuetz, Issac Snell and Lily Treml will present their project, findings and recommendations.
