Authorization of Cable Technician hire at step 5 of the part-time compensation schedule. 
Policy/Action Requested:
Authorize the hire of Cable Technician candidate Dave Elbon at step 5 of the part-time compensation schedule. 
Recommendation:
Authorize the hire at step 5
Discussion:

City policy requires council approve any new hires for which the wage or salary is above the mid-point of the compensation schedule for that position. The Communications Department would like to hire Dave Elbon for the role of part-time cable technician.

 

Mr. Elbon comes to us with 20 years of experience in government communications, including specialized experience with Broadcast Pix and Cablecast software, which is difficult to find in a candidate. Mr. Elbon's knowledge and experience will be beneficial not only for broadcasting the city's meetings, but also for supporting the Communications team as we strategically plan for software and hardware upgrades into the future.

Budget Impact:
The Communications Department budget reflects this position.
