Shakopee City Council
February 20, 2024

FROM:Michael Kerski, Planning/Development Director
TO:Mayor and Council Members
Subject:
Agreement to purchase a jumping platform feature from Artisan Industry, LLC
Policy/Action Requested:
Approve contract with Artisan Industry, LLC for $77,000 for a jumping platform for SandVenture.
Recommendation:
Approve purchase.
Discussion:

Council has previously approved a "pirate themed" playground for small children for the sand area at SandVenture.

Global, the pool contractor, has proposed a standard jumping platform with no theming for the new pool.  Bill Delany, on the Planning staff, sought out proposals from other firms for a more creative jumping platform that could reflect the theme from the original concept rendering that the community had reviewed and provided input to.

Artisan Industry provided the most attractive and cost competitive concept.  They are part of a much larger playground manufacturer and the Artisan division develops specialty concepts.  Staff has attached their renderings that have also been reviewed by the various consultants and the city's pool staff and all are in agreement that this will be a great addition to the pool and ties into the original theming.

Artisan is proposing three platforms on the ship, including one for a lifeguard to use to monitor the area.  The ship will be approximately 16 feet long, 14 feet tall and vary from 7 to 9 feet wide.

Budget Impact:

Ship will be paid for out of Park Development Fund since it is a new addition to the pool, similar to how the city paid for the new playground.

Cost savings from Global not installing its jumping platform will be used to pay for other areas that need repair or replacement in the pool that were not in Global's original contract.
