| | | | | | | | Discussion:
At its December 5, 2023 meeting, Council approved the application to the MN DHS Age-Friendly MN expansion grant. The MN DHS Age-Friendly MN was previously awarded to the City of Shakopee to create an age-friendly patio space and provide gardening classes to its Active Older Adults program. Applications were only opened to current grantees as an amendment to the current grant agreement as the previous year's requests greatly outweighed the amount of funding available.
MN DHS granted the City of Shakopee an expansion award of $35,000, totaling $68,115 received. The award provides funding to finish the patio space at the Community Center, allowing for the purchase of additional seating, mobile raised plant beds, concrete planters, and stone to match the current façade. The stone will create a more defined area while also providing additional seating and permanent raised plant beds. The plants grown in this and the surrounding space, both edible and floral, will be tended to by the Active Older Adults gardening classes. | | |
