Subject:
Award of Contracts for Fire Station Remodel
Policy/Action Requested:
Approval as requested.
Recommendation:
Approve awards for contracts for the remodel of Fire Station 1.
Discussion:

On March 6, 2024, City Council approved the advertisement for bids in order to remodel Fire Station 1. When the department transitioned to a 24/7 staffing model in 2020 temporary sleeping quarters were put in place and are still in use today. While those temporary accommodations have served our department well, a more permanent solution is needed for the health, welfare, and comfort of our staff. This project would relocate and remodel existing training space to make way for four dorm rooms, which includes substantial mechanical and electrical work; remodels the existing office space to allow for better utilization of work areas; provides outdoor signage for the facility (currently there is none); and refinishes the apparatus bay concrete floor in order to significantly extend its useful life.

Terra Construction prepared and advertised bid documents for the project, and opened bids on April 9, 2024. A total of 52 bids were received for the various categories. The low bidders are as follows:

The original project estimate was $800,000.

Budget Impact:
