Replacement of Fire Station 1 windows was included in the capital improvement plan for 2017. For various reasons the project was not completed during 2017 but funds are still available in the capital improvement fund.

The existing windows in the building are original fixture to the building, and are made of wood.  The existing windows, particularly on the south side of the building have failed to effectively hold water outside of the building, and the structure of the windows is failing.

We have performed water testing, and testing on the windows including removing a window for the purposes of inspection. It is recommended to proceed with replacement of the windows, some minor repair of water damage, and sealing and water repellent to prevent future damage. RJM assisted in assessment and estimation of the project.

Due to the slightly increased scope of the project to mitigate water damage and to install preventative measures, the project budget is higher than the amount included in the CIP.  RJM currently estimate the base project to be approximately $161,000; with alternates estimated at $40,000.  Wood windows will be replaced with aluminum windows of reasonable quality.

The successful bid will be brought back to the council for consideration.
