Discussion:
The GIS Specialist position has been geared towards just a technical position. In actuality, the GIS position is more of a coordinator position that also performs the technical work. This position completes higher-level coordination among various departments to support the goals of Public Works as well as citywide.
The GIS Specialist position was requested to be reviewed by the City Engineer/Public Works Director. The review of this position was done by Keystone Compensation Group, as a neutral third party. Keystone recommended that the position be reclassified to a GIS Coordinator position at a grade 170 on our 2018 Non-Union Pay Plan.
The incumbent in the GIS Specialist position will be appointed to the GIS Coordinator position in accordance with Shakopee Personnel Policy V.I.
