Anne Maus, representing Cameron's Coffee has applied for a conditional use permit to allow for the construction of three additional stacks for ventilation at 5700 12th Avenue East. Structures greater than 45' in height in the Business Park zone require conditional use permits. Cameron's Coffee also operates a warehouse at 5555 12th Avenue East.
Cameron's Coffee received a conditional use permit for roof stacks for roasting, fresh air, and an oxidizer on May 4, 2017. Since that time, Cameron's has grown to be the nation's second fastest growing coffee company, based on the success of their compostable single serve coffee pod design and recently being awarded a large private label contract.
The proposed request is for two roaster stacks that would be 56' 9" tall, and one oxidizer stack that is 64' tall, which is used for filtration of roaster smoke. The applicant's request involves staged growth. The 2nd roaster stack is not anticipated to be needed for another 3 years. The proposed stacks match the height of the existing stacks and would be constructed of the same materials that has a dull finish to not reflect sunlight. The proposed stack locations are within 10-15' of the existing stacks (see attached exhibit).
Additional stack height allows for greater diffusion of the odors generated by the coffee roasting process. Staff has not received any negative feedback since the installation of the stacks in 2017 and did not receive comments from adjacent owners for this request.
