Shakopee City Council
May 15, 2018

FROM:Steve Lillehaug, City Engineer/Public Works Director
TO:Mayor and Council Members
Subject:
"No Parking" zone along Municipal State Aid Street 133 (Crossings Boulevard).
Policy/Action Requested:
Approve Resolution R2018-058, prohibiting parking on both sides of Municipal State Aid Street 133 (Crossings Boulevard) from Pike Lake Road to County State Aid Highway 18.
Recommendation:
Approve Resolution R2018-058.
Discussion:

As part of the Ridge Creek 2nd Addition development, Crossings Boulevard is being completed, extending the roadway from just west of Fox Run, westerly to Pike Lake Road. The completion of this segment will complete this roadway, making it a continuous roadway from County Road 18 to Pike Lake Road.

This segment of Crossings Boulevard is designated as Municipal State Aid Street No. 133. In accordance with Municipal State Aid Rules, parking must be restricted on both sides of the roadway due to the certain lane and shoulder widths and minimum parking lane requirements. The existing section of Crossings Boulevard is already signed with "no parking" restrictions on both sides of the roadway; signing the new segment of roadway will maintain consistency (see attached exhibit).

The no parking resolution is a Municipal State Aid requirement to properly document that the roadway has not been designed to accommodate parking and that parking restrictions must be signed by the city, accordingly.

Budget Impact:
None.
