Discussion:
Jamie Polley has submitted her resignation as Director of Parks and Recreation effective April 20, 2018 (see attached). The city council is the hiring authority for department heads and must accept the resignation of department heads.
The attached separation agreement is a standard legal employment separation document. The major clauses are a release of claims, mutual non-disparagement, and a financial severance agreement. Ms. Polley has signed the document and the recision period has passed.
This is a mutual separation agreement. Ms. Polley is resigning in exchange for the included severance payment. This agreement is being proposed because both parties believe it is in our mutual interest to end Ms. Polley's employment with the City of Shakopee.
The financial terms are payment to Ms. Polley in the amount of $25,803.84. This payment is equivalent to just over 10 weeks of severance. Ms. Polley has 10 years of service to the City. Therefore, this severance payment is equivalent to approximately 1 week for each year of service.
Approval of this agreement does not require unbudgeted funds. The parks and recreation director position will not be filled until more than 10 weeks has passed.
