Discussion:
Many of our current AED's, including those in City Hall and the Community Center, have been recalled by the manufacturer. Due to the fact many are over 10 years old, the manufacturer is only willing to give us a credit of $75.00 per unit. We cannot purchase a suitable Phillips replacement as the FDA has issued a stop order on them.
We have identified a suitable replacement, the Lifepak 1000. Cost per unit is $2,180.00 off the state bid. The vendor is willing to give us a $300.00 credit per Phillips unit that we trade in. With the discount, each new AED will cost approximately $1,800.00.
This is a proven life saving tool used frequently by our department. The need to purchase new AED's and get them into our squads and other city buildings is urgent. We intend to purchase the AED's using asset forfeiture funds. It is our intent to replace additional AED's not affected by this recall using grant funding in the future.
